Relief to tsunami-hit

Timely help.

THE TSUNAMI on December 26, 2004 shattered their lives; taking away their loved ones and hard-earned property. But, for thousands of victims, hopes of a fresh life that will help heal the scars inflicted by the calamity are kept alive by the remarkable support of individuals and organisations.

Every district in the State has contributed its mite towards rehabilitation.

And, assistance keeps pouring in from non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the form of relief materials and manpower to carry out rehabilitation measures.

A group of NGOs from Namakkal district provided relief materials to the tsunami-affected in Cuddalore District.

The Consortium of Namakkal NGOs collected rice, milk powder, medicines, vessels, water packets and clothes and distributed these among the victims in Parangipettai block.

Members of the consortium, led by D. Dhanapal, Director of Geo Resource Centre, and Thillai Sivakumar, Director, Kandaswamy Kandar Environmental Organisation, interacted with the district administration in Cuddalore to ascertain the needs of the affected people and handed over the materials to those affected by tsunami in Devanampettai, Villiyanallur, Velangirayanpettai, Kumarapettai and Madavapallam villages in the coastal district.
